Definitely one of my Christmas favorites. I almost named this orange cat I've adopted Scut Farkas because he has yellow (well, green-yellow) eyes and red hair. :-)
It's really very good. I don't know how well it relates to the present, but, for me, the scenes of a 30s childhood weren't that much different from that of one in the late 50s, early 60s. Change the radio to a tv and you were there.
I always watch it at least once every Christmas. I saw it when it originally came out in the theaters and I don't think I have ever laughed harder in my life. LOL, years before that movie came out, one Thanksgiving when I was still living in Arizona, we (my parents and brother) were driving on residential streets over to visit someone. The streets were absolutely empty - it was mid-afternoon, prime Thanksgiving dinner time. When what should we see? Burford! He may well have been the only Irish setter in town - very distinctive. Everyone in that neighborhood knew Burford. Burford was running hell bent for leather down the street with a cooked Thanksgiving turkey in his mouth. (He ran right by our car - alongside for a moment as my dad was at a stop sign - so we got a good glimpse of the turkey and it was clear it had been cooked.
That would have been a sight! We've had dogs grab things from off of a table, but nothing that size! Hope Burford found a nice quiet place to partake of his Thanksgiving dinner. *g*
Hope you had a very Merry Christmas and a joyously Happy New Year!
Thanks, you too! I had a great Christmas, but came down with a "bug" and spend part of this past week recovering from it. This seems to be a new tradition - there's so much to do in December and December is always busy at work so I think I just wear myself out and get sick. I think I need to back up Christmas prep to early in November so I don't need to do everything all at once.

That's what I do, though it still seems that that time of the year is ridiculously busy. The outside lights have to be up before it snows, so usually right after Thanksgiving, the inside decorations have to be up by the first week of December because then I start baking, and the baking has to be done by around the 15th so that the packages will get to their destinations on time. Luckily, I shop online!
