lee_the_t: MFU TV show, no preference as to slash or gen, but I'd like something that uses the fog as part of the story. And ... dare I add ... spooky! Also, the above (below) photo.

"It's such a lovely day. Aren't you glad we decided to take a drive?"
Kevin looked over at his wife and smiled. It was one of the things he loved about Elaine, that she took pleasure in the simplest things. "I'm glad you talked me into it, but we'd better find a gas station soon." He nodded toward the instrument panel. "We're getting low."
Elaine pulled the map from the glove compartment. She opened it up and followed the line that designated the road they were on. "It looks like there's a town about five miles away. I can't imagine there wouldn't be one there."
"I certainly hope so." Kevin wasn't worried, well, not too worried. The sun would be setting soon, and he didn't want them to have to spend the night in the car. So, it was with a real sense of relief that he saw the gas station sign up ahead.
He pulled in next to the pump and turned the car off. It wasn't long before a middle-aged man walked out. He was wiping his hands on a grimy piece of cloth that was doing next to nothing getting the grease off. "Can you fill it up?"
The man nodded and threw the rag into a garbage can that sat at the end of the pump. "Regular or premium?"
Kevin almost grimaced. "Did the man actually think he was going to put regular gas in this car? He'd babied the Mustang from the day he had bought it. Its red exterior looked like it had just come off the showroom floor. It had taken all of Elaine's persuasive powers to get him to drive it down these roads. "Premium."
Elaine opened her door. "I'm going to use the ladies room."
Kevin nodded, then got out of the car. He approached the man. "Can you tell me how we get back to the main road?"
"That road you came in on, follow it back out, staying to the left. Anytime you get to a fork in the road, go left."
"Okay, thanks." Kevin looked around. "This is a pretty small town. I was almost afraid that I wouldn't be able to gas up."
"Everyone needs gas, Mister." The man pulled the nozzle out and returned it to the side of the pump. "That'll be $7."
"That's a little steep, isn't it?"
The man gave him a look. "Like you said, it's a small town. It costs to have them truck in the gas."
"I suppose." Kevin counted out the $7. "Is there a hotel in town?"
"No 'fraid not. Not much need for it this far out."
Kevin glanced in the backseat of the car. They'd brought an overnight bag, with the hope of finding some place to stay for a couple of days. Guess it was back to the city. Seeing Elaine return and get in the car, he slid in next to her and started it up. "You ready?"
"Sure am."
Kevin pulled out, stopping for a moment before pulling out onto the road and driving away.
The garage attendant stuffed the money into his pocket and watched until the car disappeared from sight. He didn't care much for city folk, but he truly hoped that the man followed his advice and stayed on the main road. He surely did.
