Mount TBR Reading Challenge 2019

I looked over the challenge levels and decided to return to Mt. Ararat (48 books.) I just made it this year, so I think the next level, Mt. Kilimanjaro (60 books,) is probably beyond me. But you never know, I can always switch up!

As you said, I can always switch up. Between my Kindle and my bookcases, I'm sure I have enough books to go for the 36-book level, but I like to leave room for new authors I find or best sellers (especially political best sellers) that I want to read hot off the presses.

Yeah, that's where I ran into trouble. I think there were about a half dozen or so books that I read that couldn't be part of the challenge since they were new.

I've never made a count, but I problem do at least a Ararat every year, counting the audio books.

I never used to count before, either, but I've found that the challenges keep me on track. Instead of meandering around my collection, wondering what I'm going to read next, I put the ones "next" aside, so that I really do have a TBR pile as the year starts.

And being able to let go of another bookcase keeps me from buying more...well, not too many more. *g*

I'm trying to avoid buying another bookcase. Most of my new books are on my Kindle app or I get them from the library (mostly audio there.) I have loads of books I'm slowly sorting through and see what to donate. I'm unhappy half.com went away; I was selling a lot of used books through that venue and there's nothing else online that works the same way they did.

Oh, I'm definitely not buying another bookcase! But there are certain authors that I always buy the book, so the bookcases I have aren't emptying as fast as I'd like.

As I go through my books, I take the ones I'm getting rid of to a local bookstore that has a used section. I obviously don't get anywhere near what I paid for them, but it's something. The rest I donate to the library.

There are a couple of used bookstores a few miles away. I may check them out. If they do buy used tooks they'd have to have close by parking as I can't walk for any distances anymore, and I wouldn't be able to stand for any length of time (i.e., much longer than a minute) in case they need me to be present while they look through my books. For the same reason, I don't do any kind of shopping which requires me to "browse", which is the reason I don't know anything about these stores. Basically, I go to supermarkets and stores like Target that have mobility scooters and avoid all other stores. (Isn't it ironic the initial injuries to my right foot came from high school P.E. class?)

Most used books stores I've been in have places for people to sit. Hopefully the ones near you have seating, too.

You've had so much trouble with your foot over the years. I guess I always thought that eventually they'd be able to fix it up proper. It's too bad the scooters are so big. I know you'd have to get a much bigger car in order to take one of your own wherever you went.

Hope so! I'll check those out later this spring. I have a lot more books to look through and see what I want to winnow out.

I am thinking of getting one of those motorized chairs at some point. Easier to deal with than a chair. I need to find out how much they weigh. The days of me being able to carry around 40 pound zine boxes is long gon.

I don't think there's any possibility of fixing my feet.Back in 2008, when I got a second opinion on my left ankle, the posdiatrist asked me when I'd had the ankle fusion surgery done. I told him, never. He said that the fusion between the ankle bones was so complete there was no longer any line to even indicate they had once been separate bones. Ditto for the mid-foot bones in my right foot - they are no longer separe bones; they are one thing. The only surgery I had done was joint removal surgery in my right big toe. At last year's podiatrist exam I brought up the idea of surgery again, and my podiatrist told me that he would only perform surgery as an absolute last resort, because the high likelihood of nerve damage would result in my losing use of the foot, and the likelihood of damage to blood vessels means I could lose the foot. (My left foot is almost as bad.)

I don't know if they've been able to lower the weight on the chairs, but the one my dad had weighed a ton. Well, maybe not a ton, but a lot!

That's so bad about your feet. Surgery definitely sounds like the option of last resort!
