Weekend Wonder

November 3rd

With many a false starts, I finally figured out how to start this blankety-blank throw. I almost gave up. But I finally persevered, and once I did the rest was really easy. I suppose if I were so inclined, I probably could have finished it in a weekend. But I wasn’t, so I didn’t. What I did do was get the three colors I’d chosen started.

After that, things really did start to take off. The throw just grew…

(Nov 5) And grew….

(Nov 9) And grew!

But not enough. With only the edging to do, I didn’t feel that the throw was quite bit enough, so I kept going, adding another round set (one row of the last color, then two of a color, three of the next color, then two of the last color, then one row of each color.)

Then there’s just adding the edging.

(Nov 12) It is done!

Sweet! I love making those so much. I made one a few years back that I gave to a friend.

I need to start crocheting again and do another one up sometime soon.

It's lovely! I love the colors. And her cat seems to love it, too. My dog likes the one I made for him. It's spread out on the floor next to my desk. :-)

Weekend-Wonder Giant Granny Square Throw

Sometimes a British brain is a confusing thing - 'cos I'm partial to a bit of knitwear talk - but what instantly popped into my head when I saw 'Weekend-Wonder Giant Granny Square Throw' was a cross between a dwarf tossing contest and a square dance.

I won't tell you what popped into my head when I first heard of 'dwarf tossing'...

Lol, it's a wonder what pops into our heads. But dwarf tossing? Hmm. The name of it is certainly a mouthful, though.

Wow, that looks super warm and cozy!

It is. I decided that it's going to be my cover when tv watching. Now we all have one! *g*

I think we all need something like that. I have various lap rugs that I've quilt - they keep me warm and double as cat claw protection.

Yes, your quilts are gorgeous! But cat claw protection? Yikes!

Yup. I have two that love to knead, so it's just safer.

That looks very nice! I'm glad you can still make handcrafts, given that you've said you have neuropathy.

Thanks, I like the way it came out. And because of the medication I take, I hardly feel the neuropathy. There's only a very slight tingling in my hands that I just notice when they're still. The feeling on my feet is slightly muted, but that's it. So the neuropathy doesn't get in the way of my doing anything. :-)

I'm so glad to hear that the medication controls your neruopathy so well! Given all the lovely things you make, it would have been terrible if the ability to do that had been taken from you.

Thanks, me too! *g* Between the medication and exercise, it's stayed manageable. Here's hoping it stays that way. :-)

What a great granny-blanket! I made two of these when I was a teenager, which I actually still have - but yours looks more substantial somehow- maybe it's the rectangular centre, whereas mine was a square centre... If they weren't tucked up somewhere in my storage, I'd take a picture for comparison! You're inspiring me to maybe have another go though - using softer wool than I did way back when, too! Great job!

If you do ever take them down, I'd love to see your handiwork. And, yes, I think you should get back to it. I find it very relaxing. But no wool for me! I'm allergic.

This looks really lovely.

Congratulations on getting it finished - and making it even bigger.

Thank you! I think I may have made the stitches tighter than the pattern called for, because the size noted on the pattern is about the size mine ended up being. But that's okay. With the holes in the pattern, the tighter stitches keeps out the cold better.

I would agree with you, for something designed for the cold weather, tighter stitches are better.

They really are. And for some reason I just seem to crochet that way, so it really works out for the best.

I think a lot of people tend to knit/crochet tighter or loser than the pattern actually 'assumes'. I know I used to knit far more tightly & I think I did crochet somewhat tighter than my grandma did.

It's beautiful and looks incredibly cosy! Once again I'm *very* impressed with your ability to create something so attractive.

Thank you! Though I have to admit, it's probably not as difficult to create as it looks. But it really is warm and snuggly, just the thing for late nights of tv watching. :-)
