Not a lot of movies this month. I had to fly out to Phoenix for a couple of weeks, which cut into my viewing time. But I did get to watch a few favorites with my sister and brother, so that was good. :-)

MOVIES WATCHED IN SEPTEMBER

Sept 4 - Sense and Sensibility (1995)
Rich Mr. Dashwood dies, leaving his second wife and her three daughters poor by the rules of inheritance. The two eldest daughters are the title opposites.
Director: Ang Lee
Stars: Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, James Fleet, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Hugh Laurie

A real favorite. Great cast, great movie.

Sept 5 - The Burning Bed (1984)
An abused battered wife has had enough of husband beating up on her. Everywhere she turns for help, there's not much anyone will do. After he rapes her one night, she sets the bed on fire with him in it asleep.
Director: Robert Greenwood
Stars: Farrah Fawcett, Paul Le Mat, Richard Masur

Hadn’t seen this one in years. Make that decades. Holds up well.

Sept 5 - Frida (2002)
A biography of artist Frida Kahlo, who channeled the pain of a crippling injury and her tempestuous marriage into her work.
Director: Julie Taylor
Stars: Salma Hayek, Alfred Molina, Geoffrey Rush, Ashley Judd, Antonio Banderas, Edward Norton

I’d never heard of the artists, but she was a truly amazing woman. And Hayek is at her best.

Sept 7 - Coco (2017)
Aspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family's ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-great-grandfather, a legendary singer.
Directors: Lee Unkrich, Adrian Molina
Stars: Anthony Gonzalez(voice), Gael García Bernal(voice), Benjamin Bratt(voice)

One of the few recent animated movies that I’ve really liked.

Sept 9 - The Greatest Showman (2017)
Celebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.
Director: Michael Gracey
Stars: Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson

Another favorite. I love the music.

Sept 21 - Extinction (2018)
A father has a recurring dream of losing his family. His nightmare turns into reality when the planet is invaded by a force bent on destruction. Fighting for their lives, he comes to realize an unknown strength to keep them safe from harm.
Director: Ben Young
Stars: Michael Peña, Lizzy Caplan, Amelia Crouch

Not at all what I expected. Kept me interested, and the ending was a surprise.
