Not only how a scientist may or may not react, but how a military person would! There's no way an officer or enlisted person would talk to their commanding officer that way. Most of the crew of the Galileo had been in the service way long enough to have had that sort of behavior, figuratively, beaten out of them.
I hadn't read KSC's story before (I have to admit, I rarely read gen,) but I have now. Nicely done. :-)
I liked your first story, too. Kirk is stern, yet his friendship with McCoy shines through. Haven't read the other one yet (it's a bit long!) but I have downloaded it.
