January - High School Meme

I’ve been collecting these memes for literally years. I always mean to answer them, but never seem to get around to it. But [livejournal.com profile] nakeisha has given me the incentive to finally get off the dime. I’m going to try to do one a month. So I’m starting with this one, snagged from [livejournal.com profile] tinnny in August of 2016 (!).

1. Did you know your spouse?
No, didn’t meet him until years and years later.

2. Did you carpool to school?
No, I attended a high school out of my district, so everyone else was coming from a different direction.

3. What kind of car did you have?
Didn’t have a car in high school.

4. What kind of car do you have now?
a 2019 Ford Escape

5. It's Saturday night... where were you?
Probably home, after spending the day at work.

6. What kind of job did you have in high school?
I worked part-time for the local telephone company, doing clerical work.

7. What kind of job do you have now?
None! I retired at 50. :-)

8. Were you a party animal?
Not in high school.

9. Were you a cheerleader?
God, no.

10. Were you considered a jock?
Lol, absolutely not.

11. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
Nope. Not that I was interested, but it would have been impossible with my work schedule.

12. Were you a nerd?
Definitely, though that word wasn’t used back then.

13. Did you get suspended or expelled?
No, never.

14. Can you sing the fight song?
I don’t remember it, which is weird because I remember the one from my grammar school.

15. Who was/were your favorite high school teacher?
Mr. McMullan. He was my Earth/Space teacher my freshman year, and then my Physics teacher my senior year. He would do things like get in his car, drive it down the street outside the class while blowing the horn to demonstrate the doppler effect.

16. Where did you sit for lunch?
One of my friends had a car, so usually we went off-campus.

17. What was your school's full name?
North Phoenix High School.

18. What was your school mascot?
A Mustang, the horse not the car. *g*

19. If you could go back and do it again, would you?
Hmm, probably not. I didn’t hate it, but it was basically something to get through. It’s hard to be into the high school scene when you’re working with adults.

20. Did you have fun at Prom?
Yeah. Somehow I ended up going with the guy I’d been crazy about all year.

21. Do you still talk to the person you went to Prom with?
No. I learned that he died a little over ten years ago.

22. Are you planning on going to your next reunion?
No, haven’t been to any of them.

23. Are you still in contact with people from school?
I was with one on Facebook when I was still on Facebook, but that was it. I kept more in touch with people from grammar school.

24. What are/were your school's colors?
Red and blue

25. What did you do on senior skip day?
I really don’t remember. I probably went to school.

I don't they even had a senior skip day when I was in high school...sigh...

They did when my sister was in high school, which was in the early to mid 60s, so it might have been regional. I remember hearing about it at my school, but I only had to ask my parents if I could skip school in order to do so. Two or three times a year me and my best friend would skip school, get a 10-ride bus ticket and away we went. :-)

You are probably right. U-32 was pretty much marched to its own tune.

I really enjoy these, and learning little details about you! Thanks for posting.

Thank you for reading it! I find them interesting, both to do and to read.

This is interesting - it's always good to learn new snippets about someone.

I think so. :-) Interesting to answer, too.

I bet it was. I did consider doing it, but an awful lot of it is so American based - or at least it was when I was at school. These days I believe a lot of schools do have a prom, but not in my day.

I've heard that from others, that the questions are very much slanted toward Americans. I really wish they wouldn't do that, but, at the same time, I love reading the answers when the meme is slanted toward the British (big surprise. *g*) Oh, and sorry for the late response. :-(

I'm glad it's not just me who found it thus. I suppose it's natural to assume that all school systems are the same, especially when it's the UK & the US. Or maybe it's a case of not really thinking about it. I'm not surprised to hear you enjoy reading British slanted answers *g* There's not need to apologise, I've been late in responding at times.

hahahaha, muaha, I do not remember doing this meme. :D But since you remembered when you snagged it from me, I found and reread it. Many of the questions were so US-centric that I couldn't answer them.

I saved the email, so it was easy to remember. :-)

Yeah, I wondered about that at the time. You think they could come up with questions that were more universal. Anyway, it was fun doing the meme.
