A book better than any of the movies.

Any movie, or the ones made of the book? Because I liked the first movie of this book. Loathed the second.

And the third one and the fourth one.

There was a third one and fourth one?! Sheesh, you'd think that, as bas as the second one was, they would have cut their losses.

Yeah, from Wikipedia:

The film was remade as the 1999 film House on Haunted Hill, which had a 2007 sequel titled Return to House on Haunted Hill. The 1999 film was released to middling reviews but was a box office success, while the 2007 sequel was direct-to-video and widely panned.

In 2017, another remake is in development and a prequel to the original film, which the latter will be written by Castle's daughter Terry Castle.

Oops, different movies. The first movie made from this book was called just The Haunting (1963,) and was with Julie Harris and Claire Bloom. The remake was in 1999 with Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta-Jones, which was also called The Haunting.

The 1959 House on Haunted Hill, was also remade in 1999, with Return to House on Haunted Hill in 2007. I think the confusion comes because, though I don't remember it being called that in the original, in the Return movie the house is referred to as "Hill House," which, obviously, is what the house was called in The Haunting.

Oh, thank goodness. I couldn't believe that they could get it so out of whack.
