Oddly enough, when I was younger I really liked the book. Granted, it's definitely better than any of the movies that are supposedly based on it, but this time I didn't see any reason as to why it's considered a classic. The only thing I can think as for the reason that it is would be that horror stories weren't really a thing back then. It would have been quite a novelty.
