The Brontes' church, especially outside, was very atmospheric, especially after the clouds rolled in. The painted nave at Peterborough is supposed to have a geometric optical illusion. If you stand about where I did for the picture, the impression is one, not of a closed ceiling, but one of an open scissor-beamed roof.

Barnard Castle is wonderful, as well. There's not a lot there, but what there is is impressive.

I always wonder if I say too much about some of the places. Glad to hear that I don't!
